Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is my work for sale?

Yes, it’s been my livelihood forever. My output is very limited. I am a one man band. Prices provided on request.

2) Do I accept commissions?

Generally yes if the project tastes good and challenges me. Best way to initiate is to connect with me through the email portal or directly to my email (jbryan@bryanart.com) and let me know what you are interested in. A follow up phone chat afterwards moves the ball forward to a drawing and an exact price.

3) Is there a waiting list?

Sometimes, yes, sometimes no. If you wish to get in the queue, contact me and I will be able to give you a solid idea of timing. It’s not unusual for me to have 2-3 pieces going at the same time. Slipping a smaller piece into the mix is sometimes possible.

4) Can you visit the barn if you re in the area?

Yes you can. Contact me in advance to set up a time.

5) Do I use CNC to produce my work?

Almost a blasphemous thought! I do get the question. All of the finished carved surfaces are cut with chisels made around 1800, when toolmakers were artisans in their own right.

6) Do I carve the same pieces more than once?

On rare occasions I will but it can never be the exactly the same, especially on the more substantial pieces. Each piece of wood is unique and the work done by hand. Smaller pieces are more likely to be done a few times. Customizing is one way to make each unique and interesting, and yours.
