As soon as I saw Stanley Mouse’s sketch of a rose with wings, I knew it would make a wonderful woodcarving. It’s got great lines and intrigue, two of the characteristics I’ve always thought critical for a carving to stand the test of time. None of Stanley Mouse’s designs convert easily into a woodcarving. After studying and carving his work, there is always a little something, a visual curveball that needs sorting out to bring it to life.
