This composition also comes from a Stanley Mouse sketch. I had not painted any of my work since the 90s and saw this piece as a nice opportunity to reacquaint myself with the process. Painting a woodcarving is unique and a much different process than paper. The paint needs to be in the wood, not on it in order to see the wood grain. This gorgeous piece of figured European linden is a great background to let the colors pop.
